Hitachi Transport System, Ltd.(HTS) has been awarded Modal Shift Initiative Excellent Business Operator (effective usage category) in 2021, sponsored by the Japan Association for Logistics and Transport. The purpose of this award is to recognize companies in the logistics industry that are making exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and improve labor productivity, and to introduce their efforts to society at large in order to further promote a modal shift. HTS’s “Kyushu–Kanto Modal Shift Transportation Using Domestic Vessels” received the effective use category award.
Our client, a manufacturer of hygiene products, ships products from its plant in Kyushu throughout Japan and overseas. It is concerned about a shortage of drivers and vehicles, especially for deliveries to the Kanto region. In response to this situation, we proposed a modal shift from conventional truck transportation to coastal shipping. We utilized the return load scheme from Kanto to Kyushu operated by VANTEC CORPORATION, one of our group companies and we promoted it together with client.
・CO2 emissions reduced by 184 tons (from 235 tons to 51 tons), down by 78.3% from truck transportation
・Reduced the number of vehicles by 24 per year (from 72 vehicles to 48 vehicles), thereby addressing driver and vehicle shortages
Under the business concept “LOGISTEED,” we aim to become the most preferred global supply chain solutions provider, and we strive to achieve new innovations by enhancing the core domain and expanding collaborative area across businesses and industries.
