LOGISTEED Receives Special Award at the 25th Logistics Environment Awards

LOGISTEED, Ltd. (LD) is pleased to announce that it has received the Special Award at the 25th Logistics Environment Awards sponsored by the Japan Association for Logistics and Transport. The award recognizes the collaborative efforts of LD, KURABE Industrial Co., Ltd., Unicharm Corporation, Konoike Transport Co., Ltd., and one of our group companies, LOGISTEED Express, Ltd. for their project “CO2 Emission Reduction through Bilateral Round Use of Containers”.

Summary of the initiative

Traditionally, KURABE imported materials from overseas in collaboration with Konoike Transport while Unicharm exported products overseas with LOGISTEED Express. The award-winning initiative involved transferring empty containers from KURABE Miyakoda Kita Plant to Unicharm Kakegawa Distribution Center (DC) after devanning, and using them for product export. By implementing round use of containers between the two companies, we have successfully reduced CO2 emissions and driving hours for drivers.

Key Points of the initiative

- Maintaining the existing import and export operational scheme.
- Established a container condition check system overseas to ensuring the quality of containers exported from Japan.
- Established a system closely coordinate the schedule between the parties concerned, from devanning at the KURABE Miyakoda Kita Plant to transfer of empty containers, vanning at the Unicharm Kakegawa DC, and drayage to the port in accordance with the vessel schedule and realizing on-time round use between the two companies.

Effects (Assuming a operation count of 380 times/year)

- Reduce annual CO2 emissions by up to 41.04 tons (118.94 tons → 77.9 tons), a 35% reduction compared to the past.
- Annual driver driving time is reduced by up to 1,140 hours (3,040 hours → 1,900 hours), a 38% reduction compared to the past.

The LD Group has established medium-to-long-term environmental targets aiming for a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by FY2030 (compared to FY 2013) and carbon net zero by FY 2050. In this way, the group will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
